Key Responsibilities

The following duties are expected at the full operational level. If selected at a lower grade, you will have the chance to develop your skills through training and mentorship:
  • Deliver specialized clerical support to Tax Resolution Representatives and Tax Specialists by evaluating taxpayer inquiries and directing them to the appropriate resources while managing walk-in traffic efficiently.
  • Identify and analyze operational barriers, proposing solutions to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain reporting systems that monitor taxpayer engagement with IRS services.
  • Review tax returns and accompanying documents for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with sampling requirements before submission.
  • Make preliminary assessments regarding filing extensions, issue Employer Identification Numbers, and assist taxpayers with inquiries related to basic tax regulations and IRS services.
Qualifications

Experience in a similar role is not mandatory. Relevant experience may be gained through various sectors, including public service or volunteer work.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria by the application deadline:

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in federal service, demonstrating progressively responsible clerical or office duties that indicate the ability to perform the required tasks.

Examples of qualifying experience include:
  • Conducting basic research and utilizing information effectively.
  • Communicating with customers both verbally and in writing.
  • Performing general office tasks.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Alternatively, candidates may substitute education for experience, such as a bachelor’s degree or four years of higher education in any field from an accredited institution.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of relevant experience and education may also be considered.

Additional Information

This position may require a probationary period.

Selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
