Job Summary

The Direct Support Specialist will provide support and assistance to individuals with disabilities in a residential setting. This includes promoting choice, providing appropriate support, and coordinating activities to foster individual well-being, growth, and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote choice and provide support to individuals with disabilities in a residential setting.
  • Ensure individuals' medical, dental, dietary, psychological, and other service recommendations are followed.
  • Supervise and coordinate leisure skill activities, meal preparation, cleaning, and household chores.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors.
  • Assist with development and implementation of Individual Program Plans.
  • Record and maintain accurate records of program and behavioral data, medical and medication records, and other relevant information.
  • Maintain communication and contact with programs, IDT members, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure the protection of individuals' rights and safety, and maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • One to two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a residential setting.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to possess a State of CT Public Service License.
  • Must maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work in a variety of settings and locations, including residential homes and community sites.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and provide physical intervention as needed.
  • Knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office and the internet.
