Job Overview

As a Principal Consulting Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in addressing the needs of our clients and their sales teams, serving as a trusted advisor for our IP products and solutions. Your strong technical expertise and comprehensive understanding of the sales process will enable you to work independently and effectively with minimal oversight. You will frequently engage with customers directly or collaborate with systems engineering teams to facilitate the technical acceptance of Nokia's solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with sales teams, including sales executives, managers, and engineers, to identify opportunities and drive IP business to successful closure.
  • Formulate the technical strategy for each opportunity in partnership with the sales team, guiding it towards technical acceptance by the customer.
  • Engage with key customer decision-makers, effectively communicating Nokia's IP product capabilities and tailored solutions through verbal discussions and presentations.
  • Create technical documentation, such as white papers and PowerPoint presentations, to illustrate how Nokia's offerings are the optimal choice for customer success.
  • Partner with Product Line Managers to influence product development through customer and industry-specific feedback, addressing current and future needs.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • A four-year Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a customer-facing technical pre-sales engineering role, particularly with Hyperscaler and Cloud companies, or equivalent experience in designing and operating IP networks.
  • Experience in a technical leadership capacity, developing and executing programs involving multiple stakeholders.
  • A deep conceptual understanding and practical experience with the following technologies:
    • IPv4 and IPv6 Routing technologies, including IGP (OSPF and IS-IS) and BGP.
    • Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN technologies, such as MPLS, Segment Routing, VXLAN, Pseudowires, VPLS, EVPN, and IP VPNs.
    • Traffic Engineering, including RSVP-TE, SR-TE, and PCE/PCEP architectures.
    • Modern Data Center networking design and operations, including CLOS networks and integration with cloud and virtualization platforms.
    • YANG models, OpenConfig, NETCONF, gNMI Telemetry, and contemporary network automation frameworks.
    • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
  • A solid understanding of current networking chipset options in both Data Center and WAN environments.
  • Proven skills in Product Development, including:
    • Driving product lifecycle management requirements.
    • Writing detailed Feature Request Documents outlining software and hardware requirements for new feature development.
    • Building credible business and technical arguments to support feature development requests.
    • Understanding various hardware platforms and their capabilities at the chipset level to drive product evolution discussions.
    • Engaging with industry standardization entities like IETF to contribute to emerging standards as necessary.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for effective interactions with both customers and internal stakeholders.

Strong customer communication etiquette and presentation skills are also required.
