Position Overview

The Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC) is dedicated to providing essential harm reduction services to underserved communities in Hawai'i, focusing on individuals impacted by HIV, hepatitis, substance use, homelessness, and the transgender, LGBQ, and Native Hawaiian populations. Our mission is to facilitate access to vital resources, including housing, healthcare, and treatment, while promoting health and wellness across the region.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Sexual Health Navigator plays a crucial role in outreach and education, offering risk-reduction counseling and screening services for HIV, Hepatitis C, and STIs. This position emphasizes connecting high-risk individuals to care services, including Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and other preventive measures. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Honolulu, Hawai'i, with standard working hours typically from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and occasional evening or weekend commitments for outreach and events.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Testing and Counseling: Provide comprehensive HIV/Hepatitis C/STI testing and linkage services in both office and community settings. Deliver harm reduction counseling and assist clients in navigating health insurance and PrEP options.
  • Outreach Initiatives: Engage with at-risk populations, including Native Hawaiian, Asian, and Pacific Islander communities, through targeted outreach in various venues such as social gathering spots and online platforms. Utilize culturally appropriate methods to enhance knowledge and reduce transmission risks.
  • Program Development: Contribute to the design and evaluation of HIV/HCV/STI intervention programs, ensuring the creation of engaging educational materials tailored to the target audience. Stay informed on the latest prevention strategies and collaborate with local organizations to improve access to testing and preventive services.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and ethical standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role involves working in an office setting with regular use of computers and office equipment. Physical demands may include standing, walking, and occasional lifting of supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of experience working with target populations.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of HIV/AIDS and harm reduction practices.
