Position Overview

The Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC) is dedicated to providing essential harm reduction services to underserved communities in Hawai'i, particularly focusing on individuals impacted by HIV, hepatitis, substance use, homelessness, and the transgender and LGBQ populations. Our mission is to facilitate access to vital resources such as housing, healthcare, and treatment, while promoting health and wellness across the Pacific region.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Sexual Health Navigator plays a crucial role in outreach efforts, offering risk-reduction counseling, and conducting screenings for HIV, Hepatitis C, and STIs. This position emphasizes support for individuals at risk, ensuring they receive appropriate care and follow-up services, including connections to Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and other preventive health measures.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports to: HIV Program Director

Supervises: N/A

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Testing and Linkage Services:

  • Administer HIV/Hepatitis C/STI testing and linkage services in both office and community settings.
  • Provide harm reduction counseling to clients utilizing testing services.
  • Assist clients in navigating PrEP and health insurance options as needed.
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals for additional services.
  • Conduct vaccinations and blood draws as required.

Community Outreach:

  • Engage in outreach activities targeting Native Hawaiian, Asian, Pacific Islander, MSM, and transgender communities at risk for HIV/STI/HCV.
  • Utilize various venues and platforms to connect with at-risk populations, including social media and community events.
  • Implement existing risk-reduction programs to enhance awareness and decrease transmission risks within the community.

Collaborative Efforts:

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of health interventions.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to improve access to testing and preventive services.
  • Participate in community meetings and planning groups focused on HIV prevention.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Foster a positive and cooperative work environment.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards while representing HHHRC.
  • Adhere to organizational policies, including confidentiality and compliance with health regulations.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office-based work with occasional outreach activities.
  • Regular use of office equipment and technology.
  • Physical demands may include standing, walking, and lifting supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with target populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Social Work or related field.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and harm reduction strategies.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • COVID-19 vaccination and health clearances as required.
