Sargent & Lundy's Government Services Division is at the forefront of engineering design and advisory services, providing essential support to management and operational contractors associated with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Our focus includes aiding the DOE Environmental Management Directorate and the National Nuclear Security Administration in their critical missions. This role allows you to engage with multidisciplinary design teams on projects aimed at remediating environmental impacts from historical nuclear weapons production and safeguarding our nation's nuclear capabilities.
In this position, you will leverage your educational background to oversee the design of processes for both new and existing systems. Your responsibilities will include conducting evaluations and reviews of energy and industrial facilities, culminating in detailed reports and calculations that support the assessment of proposed system designs, enhancements, modifications, and equipment replacements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with diverse project teams to:
- Assess and review the design of energy and industrial process projects.
- Develop preliminary engineering studies for design modifications and retrofitting projects.
- Analyze technical challenges, compile system specification data, and communicate findings to clients and colleagues.
- Contribute to Sargent & Lundy's commitment to national security initiatives.
- Manage daily work priorities across multiple projects while responding to project manager requests.
- Prepare engineering calculations, design drawings, and comprehensive reports.
- Conduct calculations related to chemical inventories in waste tanks, utilizing sample data and process knowledge.
- Gain expertise in radiation shielding to support nuclear facility clients, aiming to perform shielding analyses using MicroShield and MCNP software.
- Develop skills in system reliability analysis through fault trees, event trees, and reliability block diagrams.
- Work towards obtaining a professional engineering license.
- Understand and adhere to an NQA-1 quality assurance program.
- Conduct hazard and safety analyses to ensure the safe design and operation of nuclear facilities.
- Perform risk assessments and devise strategies to mitigate potential hazards in nuclear operations.
- Stay informed about industry standards, process system design, and technological advancements.
- Engage in industry code committees and conferences.
- Assist in developing nuclear and radiological readiness exercise programs for various partners.
- Provide technical support in nuclear operations, nonproliferation, and security, including training and exercises for clients.
- Offer program management and technical support related to nuclear operations and security assessments.
- Enhance your career through peer learning and knowledge sharing within S&L's community of engineers.

Qualifications
Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with another country is not acceptable.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a solid academic foundation.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in a nuclear-related field.
- A strong understanding of nuclear engineering applications and technologies.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to identify and prioritize issues swiftly, create solutions, and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Experience with nuclear materials and waste management processes.
- Familiarity with 10 CFR Part 830 - Nuclear Safety Management and DOE Standards.
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer-in-Training.
- Relevant prior experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of MicroShield and MCNP software.
- Understanding of federal regulatory programs such as the Clean Air Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
- Current Security Clearance.
