Job Overview

Objective:

The Materials Operations Supervisor is accountable for ensuring the seamless flow of materials necessary to fulfill production and shipping timelines by offering guidance and oversight to the Materials Handlers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the effective transportation of materials within the facility, managed by Materials Handlers, ensuring timely delivery to designated areas.
  • Authorize and validate all hourly timecard and payroll submissions for the materials handling team.
  • Conduct daily updates of the pre-operational forklift log and support cycle counting of specific items as directed by the Assistant Materials Supervisor.
  • Assist in confirming incoming materials against specific part numbers and quantities, reporting any inconsistencies to the materials department.
  • Ensure that the roles and responsibilities of shipping and receiving personnel are executed efficiently and punctually.
  • Maintain records of lot control for incoming materials.
  • Complete daily forklift safety checklists.
  • Ensure timely loading and unloading of materials to prevent unnecessary waiting time charges.
  • Document lot control numbers for safety items.
  • Support cycle counts as required by the Materials Supervisor.
  • Assist the Materials Coordinator and Materials Assistant Manager in investigating inventory discrepancies and errors.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with forklift load standards.
  • Implement First In First Out (FIFO) practices throughout the facility.
  • Empowered to halt production if any quality or safety issues arise.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary by the Materials Leader, Supervisor, or Manager.

Qualifications:

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required; a 2-year associate's degree is preferred.

At least two years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive sector.

Ability to instruct and lead others in material handling processes.

Proficient and experienced in the safe operation of material handling equipment, including forklifts, tote carts, and tuggers.

Knowledgeable in part sequencing, kiting, barcoding, and the principles of safe material handling.

Strong oral and written communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities.

Above-average mechanical aptitude and analytical capabilities are essential.

Familiarity with internal shop order numbers and their significance is required.
