Position Overview

We are seeking a meticulous and committed Financial Analyst II to become a vital part of our finance department at the City of Chesapeake.

The successful candidate will be essential in ensuring accurate and efficient management of financial operations. This role demands advanced skills in Excel and the capability to independently navigate challenges. As a Financial Analyst II, your contributions will include:

  • Working collaboratively with team members to upload daily financial reports into the Excel-based PDR Tool for accurate documentation in PeopleSoft ERP software.
  • Investigating and classifying payments from the Commonwealth of Virginia in partnership with various departments.
  • Engaging closely with the Treasurer's Office to align daily bank deposits with financial reports for thorough record maintenance.
  • Documenting daily transfers among General bank accounts and various departments, including Payroll, Accounts Payable, Mosquito Control, and School food accounts.
  • Guaranteeing accurate documentation of credit card and bank fees associated with the City and toll road facilities.
  • Assisting in the collection of necessary data for weekly wire transfers of toll revenue to the Trustee.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to identify and accurately record outstanding receipts in clearing accounts by month-end.
  • Supporting the monthly reconciliation of the general City bank account alongside multiple other City bank accounts.
  • Facilitating year-end cash reconciliations, performing analyses, and preparing necessary documentation.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant full-time experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work varied hours during short-term departmental needs and city-wide emergencies.
  • Capability to fulfill emergency operation support duties and potentially work in locations outside the typical job scope.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Three to five years of experience in a high-volume treasury environment with diverse revenue streams.
  • CPA or CPFO certification.
