About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Autonomy Engineer to join our team at Carnegie Mellon University. As an Autonomy Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and lead research in applied artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, with a focus on autonomy and uncrewed systems.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement novel prototyping in applied artificial intelligence, with a focus on autonomy and uncrewed systems.
  • Develop and lead research strategies, and influence the national research agenda regarding future technology.
  • Collaborate with external thought leaders, government customers, and other stakeholders to understand challenges, needs, possible solutions, and research and engineering directions.
  • Mentor and teach others, participate in technical design and planning sessions, and share insights and wisdom across the SEI AI Division.
Requirements
  • BS in Computer Science or related discipline with eight (8) years of experience; OR MS in the same fields with five (5) years of experience; OR PhD with three (3) years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of robotics principles and design techniques for air, sea, or land-based vehicles.
  • Experience applying AI technology within these domains and understanding the related implications and challenges.
  • Profound understanding of reinforcement learning principles and experience in applying reinforcement learning techniques to real-world problems.
  • Strong development experience and ability to design and implement software and systems resources for packaging and managing requirements for AI/ML prototypes.
