Position: Art Therapy Specialist (Art Therapy Focus) Employment Type: Full-time Job Overview: As an Art Therapy Specialist, you will deliver creative arts therapy, psychotherapy, and counseling services. Your role is crucial in cultivating an environment that nurtures creativity, enhances social interaction, and promotes both physical and mental well-being. You will be a vital part of an interdisciplinary team, providing support to patients in both short-term and long-term care. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing clinically sound, culturally responsive programs tailored for adults facing various cognitive, medical, and psychological challenges. Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and facilitate individual and group therapy sessions, establishing both long-term and short-term objectives based on observations and referrals.
  • Create and execute diverse, goal-oriented group sessions utilizing art and other creative modalities (such as music, mindfulness, gardening, etc.) as effective therapeutic instruments.
  • Organize structured experiences aimed at enhancing patient self-awareness, self-expression, and coping strategies.
  • Implement therapeutic interventions through art, music, drama, dance, or poetry to assist patients in achieving their treatment goals.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized treatment plans for patients, monitoring and documenting progress towards creative arts therapy objectives.
  • Encourage independent creative expression through various artistic media.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical documentation for all therapy sessions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy sessions and make necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborate as a team member in ongoing patient assessment and treatment.
  • Support patients in participating in Therapeutic Recreation activities to enhance social engagement.
  • Attend treatment team meetings.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Recognize and utilize therapeutic creative arts interventions to promote mastery and coping skills.
  • Exhibit professional competence in both group and individual therapy settings.
  • Assist with departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Identify training and development needs specific to the Creative Arts practice.
  • Stay informed about evidence-based practices in creative arts and related fields.
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree required.
  • Current License to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist in New York State (LCAT) along with necessary specialized certifications and continuing education units.
  • 1-3 years of full-time, paid professional experience in creative arts therapy.
  • Flexible schedule required, including at least one evening group session.
Compensation:
  • Salary Range: $25-$29, dependent on experience, education, and other relevant factors.
