About the Role:
The Analytical Laboratory Technician is tasked with conducting analyses across various matrices within the organic department utilizing GC/GC-MS instrumentation. This role will also encompass routine responsibilities such as sample preparation and laboratory upkeep, particularly during peak sample periods to accommodate extended operational hours and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities include adhering to company policies, procedures, and directives regarding workplace behavior while executing job responsibilities;

Complying with safety protocols as outlined in the company Safety Manual and reporting all safety concerns and incidents to the Safety Representative;

Preparing and standardizing reagents and solutions as necessary;

Creating calibration and quality control standards, along with duplicate and spike samples;

Cleaning all glassware and containers required for sample preparation and analysis;

Analyzing samples using GC/GC-MS instrumentation;

Evaluating data and troubleshooting issues with instruments, support equipment, and sample preparation processes;

Conducting instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs as needed;

Organizing workload to meet Turnaround Times (TATs) and holding requirements;

Generating work lists, workgroups, sample tables, and other computer-related tasks as assigned.

Maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Ordering necessary chemicals and supplies promptly for your work area.

Participating in audits, method development, and special projects as required.

Following Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements without deviation, unless approved by a Supervisor or Manager;

Adhering to strict QA/QC standards;

Utilizing correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

Observing established safety regulations and complying with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

Training and supervising junior staff in accordance with laboratory protocols;

Ensuring all training records and binders are current and relevant;

Assisting in other areas of the lab as required and with additional duties as assigned.

About You:
Excellent English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) are essential;

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) at an intermediate level;

Intermediate computer skills;

Accurate and efficient data entry capabilities;

Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;

Strong organizational skills with the capacity to meet strict deadlines such as Turnaround Times (TAT) and holding requirements;

Analytical and process-oriented mindset with the ability to think critically in ambiguous situations;

Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;

A strong work ethic and readiness to undertake varied tasks as needed;

A commitment to excellence and a client-focused approach.

Required

Qualifications:
Completion of a B.Sc. or Technical Diploma in Chemistry or a related field (required);

1-3 years of experience in an analytical laboratory or related field experience (preferred);

Prior experience with GC/GC-MS instrumentation or other laboratory equipment would be advantageous.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs./14 kg regularly and carry for short distances;

Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift;

Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;

Ability to climb stairs;

Exposure to unpleasant fumes;

Wearing issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks and gloves when necessary.
