Objective:
Lantern Community Services Inc is in search of a committed and proactive Shift Supervisor for our family shelter. The Shift Supervisor plays a crucial role in managing various specialized tasks within a homeless shelter. This position requires experience in site management and staff oversight, along with a background in assisting clients facing mental health challenges. The Shift Supervisor will report directly to the Director of Program Operations and will be responsible for supervising shelter operations and leading a team of Residential Aides while collaborating with Social Services, Maintenance, and Security personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all operational activities of the shelter during designated hours, including bed assignment processes, supply distribution, meal planning, property management, locker inspections, daily facility checks, and incident reporting.
- Supervise a team of Residential Aides to ensure the safe and effective delivery of services to clients and staff.
- Guarantee that clients receive timely access to essential services such as meals, laundry, toiletries, and medications.
- Lead staff in Safe Crisis Management techniques and other crisis intervention strategies.
- Oversee the documentation process for new and returning clients, ensuring compliance with necessary approvals and bed assignments.
- Monitor bed sign-ins, curfew checks, and vacancy reporting within the system.
- Collaborate effectively with Maintenance, Security, Vendors, and Emergency Responders on-site.
- Supervise video surveillance and fire prevention systems.
- Complete required documentation, including logs, incident reports, and other necessary reports.
- Assist the Facility Manager in preparing and conducting fire drills and other emergency procedures.
- Conduct regular rounds throughout the facility to identify and address hazardous situations, unauthorized individuals, and cleanliness issues.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or HSE required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience in social services, housing, or emergency shelter settings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable and capable in crisis management situations.
- Proficient in computer applications, including Word and Excel, with the ability to learn new technologies.
- F-80 Fire Safety Coordinator certification required (or willingness to obtain).
- NYC Food Handlers Certificate or ability to acquire within 2 months.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Demonstrated empathy towards the client population.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
- Preferred CPR/First Aid Certification.
Work Environment: This position operates within a shelter environment, serving a population that may experience mental health issues, substance use, disabilities, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic health conditions.
Physical Requirements: The role involves regular standing, walking, sitting, stooping, climbing stairs, and kneeling. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
