Eligibility:
Candidates must be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list for Food Service Worker II or be eligible for transfer. This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Appointment Process:
During the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled through a non-competitive appointment, meaning no examination is required. However, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Prepare food for all or part of meals.
2. Supervise Food Service Worker I staff.
3. Participate in total quality management activities related to food quality and customer satisfaction.
4. Maintain supervisory and food preparation documentation, including performance evaluations and HACCP-related records.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants should possess two years of relevant experience in commercial or institutional food preparation or service. Examples of qualifying experience include work in hospitals, nursing homes, school cafeterias, residential dining halls, restaurants, or diners, with responsibilities in food preparation, service, and supply ordering.
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal culinary arts or food service training resulting in a certificate or degree may substitute for experience. Supervisory experience in institutional kitchen operations and familiarity with Meditech and Computrition software are highly desirable. A strong understanding of HACCP procedures and safe food handling practices is essential.
Competencies:
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to lead a team effectively and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
