Position Overview:
The Vision Care Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and management of all technical aspects within the assigned practice. This role demands adaptability and comprehensive training to meet the varying needs of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide exceptional patient care, conducting preliminary assessments and tests to prepare for the Provider's evaluation.
- Operate under the guidance of the Ambulatory Patient Care Supervisor, Optometry Supervisor, and the Chief of Ophthalmology, adhering to established protocols and procedures.
- Execute clinical and administrative tasks as directed across various Clinical Services, including but not limited to Optometry, General Ophthalmology, and Pediatric Ophthalmology.
- Ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff by monitoring clinical areas.
- Maintain and clean all equipment utilized in the practice, ensuring readiness for daily operations.
- Manage inventory by stocking supplies and organizing workspaces effectively.
- Uphold a professional appearance in all clinical settings and actively pursue educational opportunities to stay updated in the field.
Professional Development:
Stay informed about advancements in ophthalmic technology and techniques, seeking training as necessary to enhance skills.
Reporting Structure:
The Vision Care Technician reports directly to the Ambulatory Patient Care Supervisor or the Optometrist Supervisor. This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- A degree in a relevant natural science or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Certification as a COA is required within six months of hire if not already obtained.
- Proficiency in electronic health records and a solid understanding of ophthalmic practices and patient care.
- Ability to assess safety hazards and implement necessary precautions to maintain a secure work environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to efficiently document patient histories.
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual capabilities (Spanish or Cantonese) are highly desirable.
- Experience with medical office procedures, including insurance verification and appointment scheduling, is advantageous.
