Wayfinder Initiative

The Wayfinder team is focused on developing scalable and certifiable autonomous systems that will revolutionize commercial aviation. Our group of specialists is at the forefront of enhancing machine learning and other essential technologies for autonomous flight; we are creating a comprehensive architecture that encompasses hardware, software, and a data-centric development methodology to enable aircraft to interpret and respond to their surroundings. The shift towards autonomous flight is reshaping the transportation landscape, and our team is pivotal in this transformation.
Role Overview

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will spearhead the creation of our autonomous hardware and software framework, which will be integrated into our existing aircraft systems. You will also oversee the deployment of our inference engine to ensure the effective operation of our AI framework within the aircraft while concurrently gathering data for the data-driven development of the Wayfinder initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design the architecture for the software and hardware framework that will facilitate data collection and inference processing on our aircraft.
  • Take ownership of core algorithm development, including integration with ROS, OpenDDS, sensor calibration, and more.
  • Guide and mentor fellow engineers within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with our product owner, machine learning, and data teams to ensure the autonomous platform meets their requirements.
  • Lead code reviews and design discussions.
  • Work alongside the machine learning team to adapt their models for execution on our embedded hardware platform.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in robotics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Over 10 years of software development experience, with significant expertise in robotics or autonomous systems.
  • Proficient in C, C++, and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with ROS, OpenDDS, Autoware, or similar protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing sensor calibration and sensor fusion algorithms/procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enthusiasm for autonomous technology and innovation in aviation.
  • Proven experience in transitioning machine learning models from Python to C++.
  • Experience in bare metal development for core libraries in custom SoCs or with standard CPUs.
  • Familiarity with GPU programming.
