The Clinical Nurse Supervisor plays a pivotal role in the operational oversight of surgical services, fostering an environment dedicated to exceptional patient care.

This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to all healthcare regulations and standards set forth by various licensing and accreditation organizations. The individual must possess a thorough understanding of policies and procedures to uphold ethical and professional conduct. The supervisor will lead by engaging staff and advocating for evidence-based practices that facilitate organizational advancement. Responsibilities include identifying challenges and providing support to overcome obstacles. Candidates should be adept in clinical knowledge, staff management, independent decision-making, change management, electronic medical records (EMR) utilization, and managerial responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, coordinate, and execute staffing strategies to ensure optimal care coverage.
  • Assess historical, current, and future unit productivity and make necessary adjustments to meet targets.
  • Lead the response to urgent and emergent situations by reallocating personnel and resources effectively.
  • Engage in patient care activities as required.
  • Implement effective service recovery strategies.
  • Mentor and support nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with educational teams to facilitate orientation and provide preceptor training.
  • Participate in the hiring, evaluation, and disciplinary processes for staff as necessary.
  • Educate team members on theoretical and clinical competencies related to surgical care delivery.
  • Work with leadership to provide formal feedback through performance evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate with leadership to achieve quality improvement and outcome-based initiatives for the unit and organization.
  • Coordinate closely with the surgical services team, including offices and operating rooms, to enhance the perioperative patient experience.
  • Assist in the implementation of new technologies and strive for workflow standardization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Education, Training, Experience, Certification and Licensure:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred, along with one to two years of progressive experience in healthcare. An advanced degree may be required based on specific service needs.
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Engagement in orientation and continuing education is essential to maintain knowledge and skills in specialized areas.
  • Must maintain BLS/CPR certification and any other relevant certifications.
Work Environment and Hazards:
  • Clinical setting with exposure to various health-related risks.

Physical Demands:
  • Medium work: ability to frequently lift 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.
