Role Overview: Under the guidance of a lead educator, the Educational Support Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting classroom instructors with educational delivery and maintaining a conducive learning environment. This role entails dedicating a significant portion of the workday to small group tutoring, instructional support, and grading assignments under the supervision of the teacher, along with additional classroom responsibilities as assigned.
Key Responsibilities: In the classroom setting, the specialist will facilitate and oversee group learning activities, support student assessment processes, aid the classroom teacher in lesson planning, and promote the development of social skills among students. Responsibilities may also include sourcing and preparing educational materials, leading academic group sessions, and providing one-on-one assistance to students in need of academic support. Furthermore, the specialist may assist in supervising the use of educational technology and resources, as well as managing the distribution and collection of assignments as directed by the teacher.
Classroom Management Support: The Educational Support Specialist aids the lead educator in crafting, executing, and assessing classroom behavior management strategies. This includes monitoring student behavior, facilitating conflict resolution, reinforcing positive behavior, and implementing behavioral interventions as needed. The specialist will also maintain the established classroom management framework and may undertake additional tasks such as parental communication, supply ordering, record keeping, and assisting in the media center.
Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with the successful completion of 60 semester hours or a passing score on the ETS/Praxis Paraprofessional examination.
