Department Overview: The Battle Ground Police Department operates as a comprehensive, community-oriented law enforcement entity. Our team comprises 29 dedicated members who strive to deliver the highest quality of service to our community. Our sworn personnel engage in various roles, including Uniform Patrol, Detective Division, Traffic Unit, School Resource Officer, K-9 unit, and assignments to the Southwest WA Regional SWAT Team. The administrative leadership includes the Chief of Police and two Police Lieutenants, supported by an Administrative Assistant and a Police Support Services Unit.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Written Examination: Required
  • LEO/CO Physical Ability Test (PAT): Required
  • Minimum Age: Must be at least 21 years upon hire
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Driver's License: Required
  • Criminal History: No felony convictions as an adult
  • Language Proficiency: Ability to read and write in English
  • Vision Standards: Must meet LEOFF 2 Medical Requirements
  • Academy Certification: Successful completion of the basic law enforcement academy after hire
  • Veterans Preference: Points available

Background Investigation: Each applicant will undergo a comprehensive background process, which includes a thorough investigation, reference checks, fingerprinting, a complete criminal records check, a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and a medical exam with drug screening.

Disqualifying Factors: Applicants may be disqualified for various reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Driving Offenses: Any criminal traffic conviction within the past five years, multiple DUI convictions, or license suspension for traffic-related issues.
  • Drug Use: Any illegal drug use in the last three years or any felony drug conviction.
  • Criminal Activity: Felony convictions as an adult or any sex-related crime.
  • Employment History: Prior employment issues with law enforcement agencies or dishonorable discharge from military service.
  • Financial Misconduct: Engaging in illegal financial practices.

Behavioral Standards: Engaging in certain behaviors as an adult may lead to disqualification unless conducted in the regular course of law enforcement duties.
