Role Summary
- The Patrol Deputy is responsible for executing general law enforcement functions, which include responding to various incidents, managing traffic, conducting routine patrols, investigating criminal activities, and performing related tasks. This role focuses on the application of contemporary law enforcement techniques and responsibilities. The individual in this position will utilize discretion and independence while carrying out diverse law enforcement duties.

- Observe and monitor activities within the designated patrol area, taking necessary enforcement or assistance actions as required.
- Proactively engage in appropriate activities when not assigned specific tasks.
- Respond effectively to assigned tasks and directives.
- Accurately document actions taken and adhere to relevant reporting and administrative protocols.
- Communicate promptly and effectively regarding activities and observations.
- Acquire, develop, and apply essential law enforcement skills appropriately.
Qualifications
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification or enrollment in the WI Law Enforcement Recruit Academy.
- A minimum of 60 college credits in addition to a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen; minimum age requirement is 18.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Capability to possess a firearm.
- No felony or domestic abuse convictions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in operating computer systems.
- Clear and articulate speech.
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position.
- Must obtain and maintain certification as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board if not already certified.
- Full-time sworn deputies must reside within specified counties and relocate within a designated timeframe after completing probation.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to possess a firearm; no felony or domestic abuse convictions.
- Ability to react swiftly and effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in using standard law enforcement equipment.
- Willingness to accept responsibility.
- General understanding of modern law enforcement principles and practices.

- Capability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute appropriate actions.
- Demonstrated initiative.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with supervisors, peers, other law enforcement personnel, and the community.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Work Environment
- The Patrol Deputy primarily operates from a squad vehicle and is subject to various weather conditions. This is a uniformed position.
Additional Information
- Qualified candidates will undergo testing using the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST).
