Execute law enforcement and custodial duties in alignment with the mission, objectives, and policies of the department, while adhering to applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Perform related responsibilities as assigned.

Respond to requests from the public and other entities for police assistance and notify the appropriate personnel.
Conduct routine patrols to identify actual or potential crime-related issues.
Carry out preliminary and comprehensive investigations regarding suspected law violations, gathering and verifying factual information from involved parties.
Assess probable cause, apprehend suspects and offenders, and take them into custody.
Complete all documentation in accordance with departmental protocols.
Provide factual testimony in court regarding field observations and investigations of criminal matters.
Serve civil and court documents.
Initiate community service activities and respond to inquiries from individuals seeking information and assistance.
Engage in professional development to enhance both academic and non-academic law enforcement skills.
Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
Fulfill the physical demands of the role; operate within the established working conditions.

Possess knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws; understand police-related constitutional and judicial rulings; be familiar with the principles of police service; know modern investigative techniques and equipment; understand the care, collection, and preservation of evidence; be aware of related criminal justice and social services systems; and comprehend emergency service procedures, rules, and regulations. Additionally, possess knowledge of county characteristics; demonstrate the ability to think quickly under stress in a logical and analytical manner; relate effectively to others in tense situations; adapt swiftly to changing conditions requiring diverse responses; endure prolonged physical and mental stress; comprehend and apply departmental policies, rules, and regulations; and communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely, both verbally and in writing. A valid Washington State driver's license is required.

To qualify for the deputy list, candidates must achieve a score of 70 percent or higher on the written examination through Public Safety Testing and successfully pass the physical examination.

Applicants must complete or have previously completed the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of the hire date. Background investigations, polygraph examinations, and psychological assessments are mandatory.

Each Deputy Sheriff is responsible for maintaining their peace officer certification status, which is essential for continued employment in the sheriff's office.

Retirement Plan:

The Law Enforcement Officers' (LEOFF) Retirement System Plan 2 is a 401(a) lifetime retirement pension plan available to law enforcement personnel in Washington. Contributions are made by the County, State, and employees based on a percentage of income to fund the plan.

Employee contribution rate:
8.53%

Health Insurance:
LEOFF Plan B, with out-of-pocket costs varying.
Dental, Vision, &

Basic Life Insurance:
Provided by the employer at no additional cost for eligible dependents.
Education Pay: 1.5% for an AA Degree, 3% for a BA Degree, and 4.5% for a Master's Degree.

Bilingual Pay:
An additional seventy-five dollars ($75.00) per month.
Leave: 4 premium days, 1 floating holiday, and 96 hours of vacation.

Holiday:
Employees receive additional compensation for the 11 recognized holidays.

Officer in Charge:
An additional three dollars ($3.00) per hour while serving in a higher rank.
Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life and

Disability Plan:
Employee funded.

Longevity:
The County provides additional monthly compensation to acknowledge continuous service.

Assignment Pay:
An additional 3% per month while assigned to specific duties outlined in the CBA.

Instructor Pay:
An additional $1.50 per hour while conducting training as specified in the CBA.

Court Pay:
Three (3) hours of overtime on days off.

Promotional Testing:
Employees will be compensated while participating in a MCSO promotional examination on their regular day off.

Fitness Incentive:
Eligible employees receive an additional $225.00.
