Job Summary

This position plays a crucial role in creating a culture of excellence in grant administration at Salt Lake Community College. As a key member of the Office of Sponsored Projects team, the Sponsored Projects Officer 3 will manage a portfolio of sponsored projects throughout the grant life cycle, providing expertise, oversight, and support to assigned college departments, faculty, principal investigators, and project staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a sponsor liaison for pre-award and post-award activities
  • Research information and data necessary for sponsored project proposal development and post-award management
  • Understand and follow OSP standard operating procedures, processes, duties, and tasks; assist in procedure development
  • Lead the proposal development process, including budget development and internal approval, with minimal assistance, according to sponsor guidelines, and utilizing all OSP materials and processes
  • Write, review, and edit project narratives
  • Research funding opportunities, determine alignment with college priorities and assigned areas, then disseminate
  • Manage, facilitate, and coordinate components of complex proposals and other documents demonstrating technical expertise and grammatical accuracy
  • Formulate sponsor memorandums independently and proficiently; compose reasonably complex correspondence
  • Support proposal submission
  • Administer, review, and closeout sponsored projects, including large awards
  • Advise on regulations and compliance, specifically to make sure projects are conducted legally and responsibly while completing program activities
  • Coordinate with principal investigators to ensure reporting deadlines are met, including review and submission
  • Maintain awareness of the financial status and work with Controller's Office
  • Administer compliance and regulation oversight for programmatic activities
  • Coordinate programmatic and financial modifications in a timely manner
  • Coordinate and participate independently in sponsor initiated administrative site visits and audits
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, communication, finance, public administration, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, sciences, humanities, social sciences, or related field
  • Six (6) years of direct, full-time, paid experience in public grant administration (pre and post-award), research administration, nonprofit grant management, government contract management, proposal development/grant writing, or budgeting
  • Project management experience
  • Strong preference given to candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Six (6) years direct, full-time experience in grant administration or a combination of the areas listed above
  • Experience in higher education setting
  • Project Management Certification (PMI, CAPM, IPMA), Research Administration Certification (CRA, CPRA, CFRA, CHES), and/or Grant Writing Certification
  • Experience with variety of federal sponsors such as National Science Foundation, Department of Education, National Institutes of Health, Department of Labor, National Endowment of the Humanities, Health and Human Services, etc.

  • Strong ability to use project management techniques
  • Ability to lead sponsored project teams and individuals throughout the life cycle of the award
  • Ability to manage and prioritize numerous complex projects, grants, and contracts concurrently and effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop unique and successful strategies for individual sponsored projects
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and coordination of work teams
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Skills in verbal communication and interpersonal communication
  • Organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • Ability to effectively and expediently problem solve
  • Ability to learn and utilize new or evolving technology, software and database systems, especially electronic research administration systems
  • Strong self-starter able to self-direct work and make independent judgments
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, service, mindfulness, and responsibility in all work areas
  • Ability to travel between SLCC campuses and off-campus and work remotely
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College
