About the Role

Sunrise Senior Living is seeking a skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure the community remains safe, clean, and comfortable for our residents, guests, and team members.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance duties, including fixing wall coverings, floor coverings, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Assist with painting and refurbishing projects.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on all Sunrise vehicles as assigned.
  • Maintain all tools and repair parts.
  • Participate in all fire drills and in the community's disaster preparedness program.
  • Assist with working on heating and air conditioning systems, domestic water systems, and refrigeration systems.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance as directed by supervisor and according to safety regulations.
  • Perform carpet and hard surface floor maintenance.
  • Perform deep cleaning and resident suite 'make ready' rooms as assigned.
  • Assist with housekeeping functions as needed.
Requirements
  • One (1) year maintenance and/or housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Technical school education preferred.
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical and code compliance.
  • Maintains a current applicable driver's license to drive Sunrise vehicles provided with an acceptable driving record in accordance with applicable regulations and Sunrise policy.
  • Possess a general understanding of OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation/Equivalent regulating authorities for Quebec, fire prevention, and life and safety regulations.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls outside of scheduled work hours.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
  • Competent in organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
