Key Responsibilities- Registration and Data Entry: Accurately and efficiently register all patients presenting to the emergency department, including obtaining demographics and insurance information.
- Quality Assurance: Review registration information for accuracy and correct any errors or discrepancies.
- Communication and Customer Service: Provide excellent communication and customer service skills to patients, families, and visitors, ensuring a positive experience throughout their hospital stay.
- Electronic Medical Record Systems: Utilize electronic medical record systems, including EPIC, to accurately and efficiently document patient information.
- Scanning and Verification: Scan insurance cards, patient identification, and demographic sheets, and verify patient information to ensure accuracy.
- Collection of Patient Responsibility: Collect patient responsibility and co-pays in a timely and efficient manner.
- Observation Protocol: Follow observation protocol when patients are assigned from the emergency department.
- Language Interpretation: Utilize language interpretation services for patients who prefer to communicate in a language other than English.
- Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction: Participate in Press Ganey patient satisfaction initiatives to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Work Queues and Downtime: Complete work queues during downtime to assist patient accounts with accurate and timely billing.
- Telephone and Interpersonal Skills: Answer telephones promptly, efficiently, and professionally, and provide excellent interpersonal skills to patients, families, and visitors.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred, with a minimum of 1 year of registration experience in a medical setting.
- Certifications: Certified Patient Access Specialist (CPAS) certificate required.
- Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills, ability to type at least 45 words per minute, and knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical record systems.
The Emergency Department Registrar will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, families, and visitors, and utilizing electronic medical record systems to accurately and efficiently document patient information. The ideal candidate will be able to remain stationary for 100% of a 7-hour shift, move within the designated area 100% of the time, and traverse between a bi-level, three-tiered Emergency Department when designated as the Float Registrar.
