About the Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Recreational Therapy Manager to join our team at Foundations for Living, a leading provider of behavioral health services. As a Recreational Therapy Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the Recreational Therapy staff, providing guidance, motivation, supervision, and learning experiences. You will also assist in the development of new programs and projects, and act as a liaison between each program and the respective units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the Recreational Therapy staff in the therapeutic treatment of patients with mental health conditions.
  • Develop motivational and learning experiences for Recreational Therapy staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Provide supervision of Recreational Therapy staff in their daily responsibilities, including scheduling and facility management.
  • Assist therapists in developing new and revised programs and activities to meet the needs of patients.
  • Attend and conduct meetings with staff, patients, physicians, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide professional encouragement, support, and in-services to therapy staff to promote their growth and development.
  • Schedule therapists and facilities for Recreational Therapy activities to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment, supplies, and ordering needs to ensure the smooth operation of the Recreational Therapy department.
  • Interview and hire new staff, ensuring orientation and competency assessments are up-to-date.
  • Complete performance evaluations and provide counseling as needed to support staff growth and development.
  • Act as liaison between the Recreational Therapy Department and each program to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Review journal articles and distribute to relevant departments to promote evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in activities to foster personal and professional development, including training and education.
  • Contribute to the development of Master Treatment Plans and ongoing treatment planning to ensure patient-centered care.
  • Conduct Recreational Therapy patient assessments, progress note documentation, and group implementation to ensure effective treatment.
  • Act as Clinical Coordinator for student programs and liaison between the hospital and colleges/universities to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Participate in hospital committees, including Performance Improvement, Infection Control, Medical Records, and Safety and Risk Management to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
Requirements:
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program.
  • Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC).
  • Five years of clinical experience, with three years of psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Supervision experience in recreational therapy, CTRSS, or interns.
