Job Title: WIC Nutrition Assistant I

Fair Haven Community Health Care is a dynamic and forward-thinking community health center that provides high-quality care to multiple generations. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented WIC Nutrition Assistant I to join our team.

Job Summary:

The WIC Nutrition Assistant I will be responsible for determining program eligibility, providing nutrition and breastfeeding information, and evaluating nutritional needs for WIC program participants. This role will also involve issuing WIC food benefits, developing care plans, and providing group classes and referrals.

Responsibilities:
  • Determine WIC program participant eligibility and continuing eligibility
  • Provide nutrition and breastfeeding information and education to program participants
  • Evaluate nutritional needs and issue WIC food benefits
  • Develop care plans for low-risk program participants
  • Provide group classes and make referrals as needed
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Site Nutritionist/Manager
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency with at least one year of experience working in a medical office or performing clerical duties
  • Successful completion of WIC paraprofessional training program within one year of appointment to the position
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with participants
  • Knowledge of nutrition and breastfeeding concepts and/or openness to learn and support positive feeding practices
  • Knowledge of computer, data entry, and Microsoft Office
Working Conditions:

This is a Category III—Low Risk Position. The WIC Nutrition Assistant I will generally work in an office environment with no exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
