Job Purpose

As a WIC Nutrition Assistant I, you will play a vital role in determining program eligibility and providing nutrition and breastfeeding information to participants. You will evaluate nutritional needs, issue WIC food benefits, and develop care plans for low-risk participants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview participants to obtain demographic data and verify eligibility
  • Provide participant-centered nutrition education and document sessions
  • Collect and enter information for certification, including anthropometric and hematological data
  • Perform follow-up phone calls for missed appointments and answer WIC phone calls
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participant files
  • Refer participants to health and social service programs and document follow-up
  • Promote breastfeeding as the normal infant feeding method
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency with at least one year of experience in a medical office or performing clerical duties
  • Successful completion of WIC paraprofessional training program within one year of appointment
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Exceptional customer service skills and knowledge of nutrition and breastfeeding concepts
About the Role

This is a low-risk position that requires working in an office environment with no exposure to bloodborne pathogens. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of nutrition and breastfeeding concepts, and the ability to work effectively with the WIC and FHCHC staff.
