Basic Purpose

The PSM Coordinator is accountable for overseeing and coordinating the refrigeration team's activities, ensuring the maintenance and repair of equipment, including ammonia refrigeration systems, coolers, and freezers. This role is vital for guaranteeing seamless production operations while upholding high safety standards. Responsibilities include assigning tasks, training personnel, and monitoring compliance with company policies and governmental regulations. Additional duties may encompass environmental and wastewater compliance monitoring.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develop and uphold PSM programs, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and the capability to draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  2. Guide the PSM team and support the facility in formulating, executing, and sustaining site-specific policies, procedures, programs, and training to achieve compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  3. Conduct regular meetings with designated refrigeration staff.
  4. Remain informed about ammonia refrigeration regulatory compliance, including OSHA, PSM, RMP, and EPA standards.
  5. Perform audits and inspections of plant operations and activities related to refrigeration.
  6. Engage in the Emergency Action Plan concerning ammonia refrigeration hazards.
  7. Instruct personnel on program components, including hazard recognition, inspections, and addressing deficiencies.
  8. Act as a liaison among relevant departments.
  9. Coordinate and engage in PSM and PM program activities at both local and asset levels, including management of change, pre-startup safety reviews, and process hazard analysis.
  10. Monitor and assist in training on operational procedures, including annual reviews/certifications and initial/refresher training. The PSM Coordinator aids in creating and updating operational procedures as necessary and maintains the training matrix.
  11. Oversee, coordinate, and participate in PM activities and equipment inspections to prevent mechanical or electrical failures, ensuring continuous machinery operation in relation to the PSM program.
  12. Ensure timely repairs to machinery and related equipment according to maintenance schedules and manufacturer service manuals or upon diagnosing malfunctioning equipment.
  13. Foster a culture of process safety and drive enhancements in the PSM program.
  14. Supervise and coordinate the development and updates of the facility's process safety information as mandated by PSM regulations.
  15. Provide assistance during OSHA and EPA audits of the PSM and RMP programs, as well as other regulatory audits of refrigeration systems.
  16. Coordinate data collection, compilation, and reporting for the company's process safety key performance indicator metrics.
  17. Identify and prioritize site programs to meet regulatory compliance needs, risk analysis recommendations, corporate policies, site-specific procedures, and audit findings. Aid plant staff in prioritizing action items to address deficiencies.
  18. Offer technical guidance related to necessary mechanical integrity elements to be incorporated into overall refrigeration maintenance activities at the facility.
  19. Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents or previously undocumented risks, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and Safety training.
  20. Track and maintain compliance, updating certifications with all relevant EPA and wastewater regulations.
  21. Perform other related responsibilities as needed to support the business objectives of Plainville Brands LLC.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

An associate degree in a technical field or PSM & RETA certifications, along with a minimum of three years of experience leading and coordinating PSM activities.

Proficient understanding of PSM standards and the ability to lead associated activities at both facility and asset levels.

At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations.

Capability to compose reports and SOPs.

Strong mathematical skills, including basic algebra and geometry.

Proficient in using computer software and Microsoft Suite.

Excellent organizational, teamwork, mentoring, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, with sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills.

Valid driver's license.

Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.

Physical Demands

Ability to sit (40%), walk (40%), and stand (20%).

Near acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less).

Ordinary speech and hearing for conversation.

Manual dexterity for hand manipulation.

Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.

Work Environment

Exposure to fluorescent lighting and climate variations. Must be able to work in cold and wet environments, including coolers and freezers, and endure outdoor temperatures that may be hot or cold.

Travel may be required (5-10%).
