Position Summary

The Vehicle Integration Department is dedicated to implementing a systems approach for vehicle development, focusing on the overarching performance and functionality requirements of the industry.

This performance and systems team represents one of three branches responsible for early definition and strategic planning within the department.

In this leadership capacity, you will oversee a team of technical engineers across various vehicle domains, including drivability, fuel efficiency, energy efficiency, reliability, diagnostics, thermal management, and more.

Your responsibilities will encompass leading systems analysis direction for customer requirements decomposition, conducting impact assessments for new technologies, defining vehicle and system-level targets, and developing validation requirements.

In this role, a successful candidate will guide cross-functional team members in establishing expectations for vehicle performance (top level) for future products, focusing on areas such as battery electric, internal combustion, hydrogen fuel cell, ADAS, connected vehicles, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Subject Matter Experts (SME) within the Vehicle Definition Department.
- Advocate for technical processes, best practices, and tool development for system engineering and product development.

- Conduct requirements gathering and creation, vehicle to system decomposition, preliminary product concepts, support product realization, and oversee design verification testing, system integration, and product compliance.

- Develop and promote system engineering principles and practices to global teams across mechanical, electrical, and software domains through vehicle-level performance definition and decomposition support to system and sub-system requirements.

- Collaborate with Product Planning to grasp customer requirements.
- Drive roadmaps by formulating business plans and engaging with cross-functional global teams for program scope alignment.
- Facilitate global alignment reviews of vehicle domain roadmaps with executive engineering leadership in product development.

- Lead the technical team responsible for articulating vehicle-level requirements and translating these into system and component design teams (e.g., energy economy, drivability, thermal management, reliability, diagnostics, connectivity, etc.).

- Oversee the creation and maintenance of vehicle-level simulation models to facilitate system optimization.
- Provide support and feedback during technical, concept, and final design reviews.

- Lead the migration and creation of requirements into IBM Doors Next Generation to enhance requirement consumption across divisions and disciplines.

Up to 10% travel may be necessary, including international travel.

Qualifications / Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field and PE license preferred.
- Preferred experience includes 5+ years in leadership and team-building roles.
- Background in engineering fields, particularly within the automotive industry.
- Ability to convey complex concepts or data clearly and accurately to executive leaders.
- Capacity to advocate for and gain support for advancements in systems thinking, toolsets, and processes.
- Proven ability to act as a change agent within the organization.
- Strong presentation skills for technical or executive audiences.
- Experience in developing program-wide schedules, milestones, and action plans.
- Emphasis on interdepartmental communication.
- Proficiency in authoring technical requirements (S.M.A.R.T.).
- Requires independent judgment and effective decision-making capabilities.
- Familiarity with IBM Doors Next Gen or requirements management databases.
- Understanding of mathematical modeling systems such as Mathworks Simulink/Stateflow/Matlab, AVL Cruise, GT Power, etc.
