POSITION TITLE: Substance Abuse Counselor

REPORTS TO: Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance and oversight of the Supervisor, this role involves the creation and management of integrated counseling services to ensure that clients receive the highest quality of care.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

· Deliver clinical counseling services to designated clients, including initial evaluations, treatment planning, and discharge processes in line with departmental protocols and regulatory standards.

· Engage in comprehensive interdisciplinary team treatment planning and activities as required or scheduled.

· Collaborate with various disciplines and colleagues as necessary to meet client needs effectively.

· Assist in upholding program rules and regulations.

· Organize and manage the distribution of program schedules and relevant information regarding events and activities.

· Oversee the collection of urine samples and toxicology reports.

· Handle telephone inquiries and provide program information, including details on alternative service providers.

· Maintain an updated database of referral information and resources.

· Refer clients to alternative services (e.g., Detoxification Units, Rehabilitation Programs, etc.) as necessary.

JOB COMPETENCY:

· Certified Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) or (CASAC-T)

· Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years of relevant experience, or Associate degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

· At least 1 year of experience working with the substance abuse population.

· Minimum of 3 years of experience in the social services sector.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

· Familiarity with computer applications.

· Excellent organizational abilities.

· Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is preferred.
