The Chief Executive Officer of UNC Faculty Physicians is instrumental in merging the clinical excellence of UNC Health with the academic prowess of the UNC School of Medicine, ensuring a cohesive integration of these essential domains.

This role reports to the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) and the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), emphasizing the dual commitment to improving patient care while advancing academic objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Operations:
The CEO is responsible for ensuring that all clinical operations of UNC Faculty Physicians are executed efficiently and effectively, delivering superior patient care and upholding the institution's reputation as a leading academic practice.

The CEO oversees the clinical performance of the Faculty Practice and associated departments, focusing on quality, productivity, patient satisfaction, and faculty engagement.


Enhancing Clinical Integration:
Through strategic partnerships with leaders across UNC Health, the CEO spearheads the integration of the Faculty Practice within UNC Physicians and all UNC Health facilities, particularly the UNC Medical Center.

The CEO champions the growth of system service lines to promote integrated care delivery.


Collaboration Across UNC Health:
Building strong relationships with key leaders across UNC Health is essential to ensure that operations align with broader organizational goals.
Leadership of Clinical Chairs:
The Clinical Department Chairs of the UNC School of Medicine report indirectly to the CEO. The CEO is actively involved in the leadership of these chairs, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and guiding departmental strategies to align with overarching academic priorities.
Supporting the Academic Environment:
The CEO is dedicated to enhancing the academic environment, promoting and supporting the research and educational initiatives of the faculty.
Facilitating Academic Integration:
In close collaboration with the CAO, the CEO ensures that clinical and academic missions are integrated and mutually supportive, leveraging faculty innovations in patient care.
Academic and Leadership Engagement:
As a member of the Academic Council, the CEO leads the Chairs' Committee, ensuring effective meetings that support institutional goals and provide robust support for department chairs.
Job Duties:

Strategic Operations:
Oversee the strategic direction and operational activities of UNC Faculty Physicians, ensuring alignment with system-wide objectives.

Collaborate with the President of UNC Hospitals to enhance patient care, operational efficiency, market strategy, and workforce engagement.

Partner with research and operational leaders to advance clinical trials.

Implement organizational goals, objectives, and policies effectively across clinical departments.

Ensure clarity and consistency in policy interpretation and administration.

Manage the financial performance of UNC Faculty Physicians, accountable for meeting operating margin targets.


Leadership Development:
Guide teams towards achieving the organization's vision and goals.

Qualifications:

Education:
MD or DO degree from an accredited institution; board certification in relevant discipline.

Licensure:
Active state medical license without restrictions.

Experience:
Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in a hospital or large healthcare system, including 10 years in management roles.

Skills:
In-depth knowledge of complex healthcare systems, regulatory frameworks, billing practices, and reimbursement models.

Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with physicians and stakeholders.

Proven ability to lead transformation and organizational change effectively.
