Position Overview

Inova Fairfax Hospital is on the lookout for skilled Advanced Pharmacy Technicians to enhance our Pharmacy department.

As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician, your role will involve the procurement and distribution of pharmaceuticals in accordance with physician and Pharmacist directives or predetermined assignments, adhering to established guidelines and protocols. Your contribution will be vital in ensuring the availability of medications and supplies. Mastery in IV admixture techniques, including aseptic preparation, accurate calculations, maintenance of sterile environments, and thorough documentation, is essential. You will be responsible for the management, accountability, and distribution of controlled substances within the Pharmacy.

This is a full-time position with a Monday-Friday schedule, including rotating day/evening shifts and weekend responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adequate inventory of medications and supplies in line with established policies and procedures.
  • Efficiently pre-pack medications, replenish designated areas, and accurately restock emergency kits and code carts.
  • Exhibit expertise in IV Admixture procedures, including aseptic techniques, precise calculations, and thorough documentation, while preparing IV admixtures and sterile compounds.
  • Maintain accurate records on cleaning logs, temperature logs, and other required documentation, ensuring completeness and proper filing.
  • Assume responsibility for the management, accountability, and distribution of controlled substances, utilizing Secure Med or CII Safe for vault medications.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting is required.
  • IV experience is preferred.
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED.
Certifications:
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician in Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within three months of hire.
