Job Overview

Inova Retail and Specialty Pharmacy is in search of a committed Retail Pharmacist to enhance our services.

The Retail Pharmacist plays a crucial role in evaluating and overseeing patient needs concerning medication therapy while delivering education and guidance to patients, families, healthcare professionals, and the broader community. Responsibilities include filling and confirming medication orders, as well as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care. The pharmacist actively participates in patient care tailored to the patients' age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician directives, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

This is a full-time position with various shifts available. A PGY-1 residency is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the process of reviewing medications, interpreting physician orders, identifying therapeutic incompatibilities, and ensuring timely delivery of medications to patients and consumers.
  • Offers empathetic and pharmacological information by addressing inquiries and requests from healthcare professionals, patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Ensures pharmacy operational efficiency by coordinating technicians' workflows, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and confirming order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Adheres to state and federal drug regulations as mandated by the state Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Enhances pharmacological expertise by participating in educational workshops, reviewing professional literature, building personal networks, and engaging in professional organizations.
Qualifications:

Experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Pharmacist.
  • Completion of a PGY-1 Residency.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
Certifications:
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the state of Virginia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within three months of hire.
