Position Summary

This posting is for one position which will be filled at a level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The following summary reflects the mid-level description (Fire Protection Engineer II) for this role. Required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience associated with each level are provided to clarify qualifications for each specific level.

This role is a specialized engineering position within the Corporate Risk Engineering team, focusing on risk and fire protection engineering.

The engineer will oversee the specification, design evaluation, construction assessment, commissioning, and ongoing support for all fire protection and loss prevention systems within the organization, encompassing both capital projects and operational units.

The role involves specialized engineering in industrial/high hazard environments, including offshore facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar installations, petrochemical/LNG operations, power generation, and traditional storage/commercial environments.

The engineer will possess expertise in fire alarm and suppression systems, particularly those addressing special hazards typically found in energy facilities.

This role also leads various specialized risk engineering initiatives, such as the company's process safety program, jurisdictional boiler/pressure vessel inspection program, and Public Safety Education program.

As part of this role, the engineer will conduct external risk engineering inspections and surveys (both property and boiler/machinery) and perform internal risk engineering assessments.

The engineer will then scope and manage risk improvement projects that address recommendations from those assessments as well as internal risk engineering standards.

The engineer will be an integral member of various project teams, serving as the technical fire protection and risk engineering lead for complex projects, such as new generating facilities, petrochemical/LNG projects, or renewable energy installations.

They will be expected to provide subject matter expertise critical for project execution, which may significantly impact the viability or constructability of the asset.

The engineer will offer technical guidance and specifications to external designers and engineering technologists for the design of the company's fire protection and risk management systems.

They will also review the technical outputs produced by those entities for compliance with building and fire codes, as well as internal standards, and provide approval for installation.

Once the systems are constructed, the engineer will evaluate the installed system for compliance with internal and external specifications, lead system commissioning, and ultimately accept the system on behalf of the organization.

This role is fully competent in all conventional aspects of risk/fire protection engineering.

This second-level position in the risk/fire protection engineering series provides engineering support and is distinguished from Risk/Fire Protection Engineer I by the increased complexity in the application of engineering skills required.
