Job Title: Part-Time Night Shift Patient Services Associate/Patient Access

NYU Langone Health is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Part-Time Night Shift Patient Services Associate/Patient Access to join our team at NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn. As a key member of our Patient Access department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient registration and admission process for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform diversified duties in the patient access departments, including coordinating registration and ED unit clerk functions, triaging and reviewing daily work to ensure prioritization and minimal backlog, insurance verification, financial assistance assessment, billing, and follow-up activities.
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO, and NYU policies and procedures.
  • Admitting Office:
    • Perform registrations/admissions promptly and accurately, including accurately adding insurance, accident information, and account notes, reviews, and completes MSPs as required.
    • Ability to accurately change names, change patient types, and transfer patients.
    • Obtain demographic and financial information from patient/family in a courteous and sensitive manner, securing signatures, copying insurance cards, updating computer systems, printing charts and labels, and escorting patients to units when necessary.
  • Insurance Verification:
    • Verify insurance/address information for billing and notification purposes and initiate appropriate procedures to maintain accurate patient/insurance records, including correction and updating of demographic and insurance information and verification.
    • Ability to add insurance accurately.
    • Screen patients to determine eligibility for Medicaid and refer accounts accordingly.
    • Verify insurance recipient/policy number and effective dates of service on EMEVS MedE OMNI or using other insurance verification tools to ensure that number and plan are correct, correct if necessary, and update account on a timely basis.
  • Emergency Department:
    • Perform registrations of emergency room visits promptly and accurately, including accurately adding insurance, accident information, and account notes, reviews, and completes MSPs as required.
    • Ability to accurately change names, change patient types, and transfer patients.
    • Obtain demographic and financial information from patient/family in a courteous and sensitive manner, securing signatures, copying insurance cards, updating computer systems, printing charts and labels.
  • Medicaid Financial Counseling:
    • Conduct face-to-face interviews with patients or their representatives in a courteous and professional manner for the purpose of screening patients to determine eligibility for financial programs, Medicaid, Hill-Burton.
    • Obtain appropriate documentation on a timely basis to support application.
    • Accurately prepare application for submission.
    • Process and submit application on a timely basis.
  • Perform any additional duties related to Patient Accounts, Admitting, and/or Finance as directed.
  • Be willing to extend beyond basic duties in critical situations.
  • Work effectively in unfamiliar situations and respond positively to change.
  • Speak clearly and write in a well-organized manner.
  • Assist in the training/re-training of staff.
  • Maintain productivity and quality statistics, review assigned daily work.
  • Order, receive, and maintain adequate forms, supplies, and charts necessary for the functioning of the department.
  • Maintain accurate information regarding insurances, contacts, and insurance coverage as well as the institution's.
  • Perform general office duties, such as adding toner and paper to printers, filing, answering telephones, transmitting messages, opening, sorting, and delivering mail as required.
  • Maintain computer skills.
  • Utilize all available resources to reach sound decisions.
  • Accept direction from Supervisor willingly.
  • Complete goals and assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Meet annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Foster an environment that promotes teamwork.
  • Cooperate in working with coworkers, other medical center staff, and outside agencies.
  • Work with others toward shared goals, including participation in department problem-solving and improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and respect for coworkers/patients' cultural background, treating people with fairness and respect.
  • Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, JCAHO, and NYU policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity or prior experience with an office setting.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Must be articulate with good interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of computer keyboard and be able to type a minimum of 20 words per minute.
  • Must be able to accurately enter data.
  • Willingness to devote the time required to complete assigned tasks on schedule.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $22.92 - $25.63 Hourly.
