Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as an intern for the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP). As a key member of the V-TOP team, the intern will assist in the implementation of Virginia Intern Day, develop and update the V-TOP digital newsletter, create marketing materials for Regional Collaboratives and V-TOP initiatives, and update the V-TOP social media plan to attract new followers and monitor analytics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Virginia Intern Day
  • Develop and update the V-TOP digital newsletter, including gathering content and creating a template for news
  • Create marketing materials for Regional Collaboratives and V-TOP initiatives or events
  • Update the V-TOP social media plan to attract new followers and monitor analytics
  • Update V-TOP presentations and assist in recording them for future use
  • Develop social media content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X by the social media plan and amplify messaging from V-TOP partner organizations
  • Suggest enhancements to the V-TOP website and develop content for approved ideas
  • Update and maintain the V-TOP email distribution list
Requirements
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior college student enrolled in a public relations, media, marketing, communications, or digital communications major that is a Virginia resident and/or enrolled at a Virginia higher education institution or recent graduate
  • Firm grasp of social media, communications, and marketing skills, as demonstrated through coursework, portfolio, or other means
  • Excellent written communication and strong editing skills, as demonstrated through a writing sample
  • Excellent computer skills, as demonstrated through coursework, portfolio, or other means
  • Eager to learn and willing to pitch in on other tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., as demonstrated through coursework, portfolio, or explanation in cover letter
  • Graphic design skills preferred (V-TOP uses Canva)
Working Conditions

The expected time commitment is 10 to 15 hours per week with at least half the hours occurring between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays. The number of hours per week, days of the week, start and end dates, and whether the position is partially remote/in-person will be negotiated with the selected intern before hiring. This is an hourly/wage position with no benefits and is limited to working on average no more than 29 hours per week.

The Handshake system required SCHEV to choose a specific "job location"; SCHEV offices are located in Richmond, VA, but the selected intern will negotiate whether the position is fully remote or hybrid remote/in-person.
