The Vice President of Information Technology (VPIT) is a pivotal position within the senior leadership team of the organization. This role involves providing strategic guidance for the IT framework, services, and security essential for the daily operations of the enterprise IT ecosystem, serving students, faculty, and staff.
The VPIT role encompasses three main areas of focus:
- Strategic Leadership – Vision and mission alignment
- Integration Management – Organizational alignment and strategy
- Infrastructure Oversight – Technical and operational focus
The Information Technology Department is a unified group of professionals dedicated to enhancing the technological landscape, with a substantial budget. The teams within this department address various components including business strategy, technology planning, shared services, research initiatives, design and development, community engagement, service management, operational excellence, security, and risk mitigation.
Under the guidance of the executive leadership, the IT department has experienced significant transformation, evolving into a more centralized entity. The primary emphasis has been on growth, research, data-driven decision-making, and strengthening cybersecurity protocols.
The VPIT will be accountable for managing the established IT framework and ensuring the reliable delivery of IT services. This individual will be instrumental in defining and executing a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with the organization’s business goals and risk management practices.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and implement strategic IT initiatives to bolster instruction, research, administration, and community outreach
- Advise stakeholders on performance metrics for strategic alignment and operational efficiency
- Lead critical application development and IT infrastructure initiatives
- Plan and prioritize IT projects to achieve organizational objectives
- Drive cost efficiencies within IT operations
- Establish disaster recovery protocols in line with business needs
- Develop business cases and conduct cost-benefit analyses for IT investments
- Monitor emerging technology trends and assess solutions to fulfill institutional requirements
- Ensure adherence to regulations and standards
- Oversee end-user services and technical support
- Implement strategic technology policies across the institution
- Lead initiatives for academic technology and research data management
- Promote collaboration and efficiency across campuses
- Evaluate contract costs against institutional goals and budget
Qualifications:
Professional Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical leadership
- Master's degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred
- Extensive experience in IT systems management and oversight
- Experience with cloud technology implementations
- Strong background in aligning business requirements with IT infrastructure changes
- Experience in service development and management
- Preference for experience in higher education settings
- Proven track record of deploying secure enterprise technology systems
