Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Crisis Counselor to join our team at Kenosha Human Development Services. As a Crisis Counselor, you will provide critical support to individuals experiencing mental health emergencies, working closely with law enforcement, emergency services, and community resources to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide crisis intervention services to individuals in need, including walk-in, telephone, and mobile interventions.
  • Assess and respond to crisis situations, prioritizing calls and providing timely support.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, emergency services, and community resources to develop safety plans and facilitate outcomes.
  • Provide supportive listening, feedback, information, and referral services to individuals in crisis.
  • Assess and refer individuals to county-funded services as appropriate.
  • Assess and provide emergency psychiatric inpatient hospital authorization when deemed necessary.
  • Assess and refer individuals to the KARE Center for crisis stabilization and/or to defer emergency hospital admissions.
  • Respond to crime scenes as requested by law enforcement, assisting in defusing victims and witnesses, and providing referrals and immediate services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to observe, interpret, assess, and document human behaviors.
  • Ability to maintain an active pace for up to an eight-hour shift.
  • Professional attitude, strong work ethic, ability to work independently, and maintain solid personal boundaries.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, in the English language.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must carry own auto insurance with at least 100,000/300,000/100,000 coverage.
  • Ability to maintain records and document case notes daily.
  • Ability to give and accept feedback as part of a team.
  • Ability to traverse within the workspace and community frequently.
  • Be willing to learn and work with treatment philosophies.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
