Position Overview:

Deriva Energy, a leader in sustainable energy solutions, is in search of a Property Tax Manager to oversee property tax functions. This role is pivotal in managing comprehensive property tax strategies, including research, planning, compliance, and audit defense. The successful candidate will collaborate with various professionals, including external advisors and government officials, to ensure adherence to property tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with local and state agencies to manage property tax compliance and oversee consulting services for a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects.
  • Optimize property tax liabilities for new and existing assets by negotiating and securing property tax incentive agreements.
  • Collaborate with development teams to negotiate tax abatements and payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreements.
  • Review tax documentation to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in property tax appeals and manage audits as necessary.
  • Provide support to financial reporting teams and external auditors, while managing property tax consulting firms to identify tax savings opportunities.
  • Prepare documentation to ensure compliance with relevant controls and procedures.
  • Assist Asset Managers in interpreting lease agreements related to property tax payments.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing property tax obligations for large land holdings, including experience with property tax return filings.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly with Pivot Tables and data auditing.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with accepted valuation methodologies and appeal processes.
  • Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA) or advanced degrees in Accounting, Finance, or Law.
  • Experience with modeling and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
