About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Veterinarian to join our Preclinical Team at Veranex in Atlanta. This individual will be responsible for performing veterinary surgical activities for daily animal care, pre-operative care, intra-operative care, and post-operative care, while ensuring regulatory compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preclinical research surgical, interventional, and medical procedures on animals.
  • Contribute to business development activities as a subject matter expert (SME) by generating strategy and proposal documents, data analysis, report writing, research protocol writing, and standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
  • Support the business operations to maintain compliance with APHIS USDA, OLAW, FDA, and ISO regulations.
  • Write pre-clinical research reports for regulatory submission.
  • Provide oversight for research equipment, equipment maintenance, calibration, validation, and preclinical research surgical supplies.
  • Lead the development of new pre-clinical research models.
  • Provide mentorship, education to the animal care, veterinary, and surgical technical staff.
  • Support emergency care of research animals, disaster and emergency recovery efforts.
  • Support pre-clinical research business, personnel, supplies, and equipment as needed to maintain licenses, certifications, validations, and accreditations.
  • Support and advise on research logistics, planning, training, and the execution of research animal protocols.
  • Provide leadership and strategic business support to pre-clinical research operations. Collaborate across multiple business units, consult on research projects, perform various aspects of the pre-clinical research.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine plus 2-5 years of directly related experience in surgical procedures, anesthesia, and/or specialty area of animal care.
  • Thorough knowledge of preclinical research related legislation, principles, practices, and surgical techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP).
  • Good mentoring skills including coaching, and providing feedback and recognition.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to communicate complex business concepts to a multi-disciplinary audience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in research animal surgical, interventional, models.
  • Expertise in research animal models, anesthesia, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
  • Expertise in pre-clinical regulations, USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC Accreditation.
