Position Overview:

The Head of Sponsored Programs is responsible for overseeing pre-award and non-financial post-award functions for a substantial annual portfolio. This role includes managing a dedicated team and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance research initiatives and ensure compliance with regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily operations related to proposal submissions, award acceptance, and contract negotiations.
  • Provide guidance to staff and researchers on proposal preparation and sponsor terms.
  • Coordinate with compliance partners to uphold standards for human and animal research.
  • Evaluate policy exceptions and make informed decisions based on risk assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to address challenges throughout the sponsored programs lifecycle.
  • Monitor and recommend improvements to research administration systems.
  • Develop and refine policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Act as a liaison with major funding agencies and professional organizations.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for staff and campus research administrators.
  • Hold authority for signing proposals and contracts related to research initiatives.
Additional Duties:

Proposal and Award Management:
Support the preparation and processing of proposals and agreements, including budget guidance and staff training. Disseminate important regulatory updates to stakeholders.

Collaboration and Innovation:
Engage effectively with legal counsel and research offices to implement innovative solutions for project-related issues. Maintain efficient business processes while ensuring compliance.

Policy Development:
Assist in creating and revising policies related to sponsored projects, fostering positive relationships with federal agencies and strategic partners.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of experience in research administration within an academic environment. A proven track record in leadership and hands-on experience in pre-award administration is essential.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and administrative personnel.
  • Comprehensive understanding of current public policy issues in academic research.

  • Familiarity with sponsor grants management platforms.
