Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineering Project Manager

About the Role:

Vanderweil Engineers is a leading national engineering firm specializing in MEP/FP and technology services. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineering Project Manager to join our Power & Utilities Group in our Long Beach, California office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and guidance for Power & Utilities projects with significant electrical power components.
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and control the execution of all business, technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the assigned project.
  • Act as the Company representative and main point of contact with the Client, contractors, and other key personnel during project execution.
  • Oversee establishment of requirements for all areas of the project within Vanderweil's scope of supply, and monitor project activity for adherence to these criteria.
  • Develop and manage scope of work during project execution, including identifying and negotiating changes to the scope of work with the Client and key subcontractors.
  • Develop high-level concepts for electrical equipment and system design that meet project requirements and lead the design team through development and delivery of project documentation.
  • Execute electrical designs in accordance with Power Group procedures and standards and specific client standards where applicable.
  • Maintain strong understanding of all associated Codes and Standards and ensure project compliance.
  • Lead power system analysis efforts, including short circuit, equipment evaluation, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies using software tools.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of project schedule, status, and technical issues, and manage technical issues as they arise.
  • Set up and manage internal quality assurance and quality control reviews for all project deliverables prior to client submission.
  • Develop agendas for and run internal design team meetings and owner/engineer meetings.
  • Perform construction administration tasks, including field visits and subsequent issuance of field reports, responding to RFIs, and reviewing shop drawings.

Operations and Staff Development:

  • Collaborate and coordinate with corporate and department leadership to manage group and project staffing, development of standards and templates that will improve efficiency and aid in the development, training, and mentoring of younger staff.
  • Provide leadership and support to assigned staff on technical and administrative issues, motivating, counseling, coaching, and developing direct reports and other members of the Vanderweil project team.
  • Continuously improve the team's deliverable quality, communications, attitude, and efficiency, establishing clearly defined goals and standards of employee performance.

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Degreed (BSEE) and licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in California, preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in MEP consulting, design-build, or construction companies.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as Electrical Engineer or Project Engineer, preferably on electrical power or power distribution projects.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with industry-standard engineering and project management software tools.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a Project Manager directing project staff and running large and complex electrical power projects.

Compensation:

The compensation for this position is commensurate with years of experience, professional licensure, and education, but should be in the $150,000 to $190,000 range.
