POSITION OVERVIEW


The Nursing Director, under the supervision of the Health Care Administrator, is responsible for managing and supervising the care provided to all residents at Williamsburg Landing Health and Rehabilitation Center, ensuring adherence to both state and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards (CARF-CCAC).

This role involves setting departmental performance objectives and advising on policies to fulfill the organization's mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develops and upholds nursing service goals, practice standards, policies, and procedures in partnership with the Health Care Administrator and the facility's Medical Director.
2. Establishes operational workflows and ensures sufficient resources, including equipment, supplies, and staffing, to guarantee high-quality care for residents.
3. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, and assessment of nursing staff; supports Shift Supervisors and Nurse Educator in coordinating the onboarding process and staff training recommendations.
4. Maintains awareness of position control for Health & Rehabilitation to ensure appropriate job vacancies are advertised; updates shared documents in real-time for accuracy.
5. Ensures timely and accurate processing of all worker's compensation matters before submission to Talent Management.
6. Collaborates with Shift Supervisors to investigate and address areas of improvement identified through employee feedback and interviews.
7. Conducts daily rounds on resident floors to monitor nursing practices and resident satisfaction, reporting observations to the Health Care Administrator.
8. Aids in formulating the annual departmental operating and capital budgets.
9. Monitors employee turnover rates and shares responsibility for improvement; implements strategies to enhance employee retention.
10. Advocates for resident interests in interdisciplinary meetings, ensuring care plans are developed in collaboration with Therapy, Activities, Social Work, and medical staff.
11. In conjunction with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, develops and implements a formal Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.
12. Proposes and executes corrective action plans for previous compliance issues, involving nursing staff in the development of action plans.
13. Leads weekly quality meetings to address concerns regarding resident care metrics, and initiates formal QAPI action plans as necessary.
14. Conducts audits of medical records to identify procedural shortcomings and ensures appropriate corrective measures are taken; verifies documentation for skilled residents to secure payment for services rendered.
15. Collaborates with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, along with Security and/or local law enforcement, in investigating cases of elder abuse, neglect, exploitation, and misappropriation.
16. Participates in an on-call rotation to ensure 24-hour nursing administration coverage.
17. Fosters positive interactions with residents, visitors, and fellow employees; monitors resident feedback to enhance service quality perceptions.
18. Coordinates with Shift Supervisors to ensure staff completes all required training and encourages engagement in professional development opportunities.
19. Holds regular meetings with the Medical Director and other healthcare providers to discuss clinical initiatives and areas for improvement.
20. Conducts monthly meetings with nursing staff to review performance and community updates.
21. Oversees the timely completion of annual performance evaluations for nursing staff in collaboration with Shift Supervisors.
22. Holds nursing staff accountable for their responsibilities and issues Employee Disciplinary Notices (EDNs) when necessary.
23. Coordinates care from contracted providers, ensuring documentation from visits is uploaded into the EMR.
24. Inputs quality metrics into the monthly COR spreadsheet and ensures timely data submission by reporting managers; leads the COR call.
25. Reviews monthly CASPER quality reports with the MDS Coordinator to identify areas for improvement and develops QAPI action plans as needed.
26. Works with the MDS representative to ensure timely submission of MDS documentation.
27. Participates in committees as required.
28. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required, along with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a long-term care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive understanding of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices; thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations governing nursing homes; familiarity with Medicare regulations; in-depth knowledge of resident care standards, psychosocial aspects of gerontology, and medical record management.
