Electrical Estimator Role Overview

The Electrical Estimator will work on electrical construction projects from bid and proposal phase through to completion, ensuring the work adheres to all standards, specifications, and budgets.

Responsibilities:
  • Budget Development: Develop detailed project budgets and cost codes for electrical construction projects.
  • Proposal Preparation: Assist in preparing technical proposals, including design, scope of work, management plans, work sequence, safety protocols, quality control, and commissioning.
  • Data Gathering: Gather data to prepare bid proposal estimates and design/build proposals for electrical construction projects.
  • Project Presentation: Develop and present clear, detailed project scopes to customers and engage with potential customers to discuss proposals.
  • Operations Management: Manage day-to-day operations of a project or sub-section of a project, ensuring timely completion and budget adherence.
  • Schedule Development: Create project schedules using the Critical Path Method (CPM) and assign cost and manpower resources to provide cash and labor forecasting.
  • Material Identification: Understand project plans and specifications to identify required materials and equipment, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
  • Change Order Management: Perform take-offs from drawings, price change orders, and manage coordination with contractors.
  • Cost Fundamentals: Maintain current, accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors, applying cost fundamentals to optimize project costs.
  • Value Added Solutions: Identify value-added solutions and cost-saving methods to enhance project profitability.
  • Labor and Productivity: Establish labor and productivity rates for electrical construction projects.
Requirements:
  • Education: Three years of experience with a Master's degree or five years with a related bachelor's degree.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite, Autocad, and experience with estimating, project management, and scheduling software.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of design principles, relevant codes, and safety standards, familiarity with electrical equipment, materials, and specifications.
  • Contract Documents: Experience with contract documents such as contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addenda, specifications, and change orders.
  • Technical Writing: Experience or exposure to technical writing.
