Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced attorney with a passion for privacy law to join our team of legal subject-matter experts focusing on privacy and data protection. This role will involve working closely with other legal, compliance, risk, and business partners across Capital One to address cutting-edge privacy issues, track legislation and international requirements, and advise on global employee/workforce privacy matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and mitigate privacy risks in a complex, highly regulated environment
  • Communicate legal privacy requirements and risks effectively to various stakeholders
  • Develop customer-focused solutions to address privacy risks and achieve business objectives
  • Support partners in building technical and organizational controls, drafting policies, standards, and procedures, and enhancing privacy operations and strategy
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, monitor legal developments, and contribute to the legal privacy team's knowledge and resources
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • An active membership in good standing of at least one state bar
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in privacy law or regulatory counseling or consumer financial services at a top-tier law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in building practical, risk-based privacy compliance solutions and advising on policies, standards, and procedures at large, multinational companies would be beneficial. Certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) is also desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is around $140,000 - $170,000, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to competitive compensation, Capital One offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Work Environment

This role is hybrid, requiring approximately half of your time to be spent in-person at one of our offices. The work schedule includes enterprise-wide virtual days on Mondays and Fridays, with in-person days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
