INTERNSHIP DETAILS

The Recording & Archive (R&A) Department at StoryCorps is responsible for managing a comprehensive archive of recorded materials, facilitating the transfer of these materials to national institutions, and overseeing the maintenance of recording facilities and equipment. We are seeking an intern to assist with various administrative functions related to our archive, database management, and audio recording apparatus.

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain insights into the administrative processes that support archival management and recording activities within a non-profit organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the management of physical collections, including digitizing audio tapes and cataloging archival materials.
  • Support data integrity and metadata organization within our archival database.
  • Prepare documentation for digitization and long-term preservation.
  • Feature selected interviews from our collection through various digital platforms and internal presentations.
  • Assist with research inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Share curated collections with educational institutions and libraries across the country.
  • Conduct inspections and testing of recording equipment.
  • Engage in special projects aligned with departmental needs and personal interests.
  • Participate in additional organizational and administrative tasks as required.

ABOUT YOU

  • You possess a keen interest in oral history and the power of storytelling.
  • You are currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport.
  • You are comfortable communicating over the phone with a professional demeanor.
  • You demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and are self-driven.
  • You can think critically and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • You are enthusiastic about working with diverse communities.
  • You have basic computer proficiency and familiarity with new technology; experience with Mac OSX is a plus.
  • Experience or interest in audio recording equipment and basic photography is advantageous.
