Position Summary

The Blanchard Grinder Operator is responsible for the operation of Blanchard Grinders ranging from 48" to 100". This role involves setting up and operating the machinery to grind flat surfaces, ensuring they meet specified tolerances using precision tools like calipers and micrometers. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to interpret technical drawings to confirm dimensions of metal components, ensuring adherence to customer specifications. This is a full-time position with a work schedule that includes Wednesday (6 hours) and Thursday through Saturday from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate overhead and/or jib cranes.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate rotary wheel Blanchard grinders.
  • Develop operating procedures for flat grinding on rotary wheel machines.
  • Make necessary adjustments to calibrate machinery for achieving tolerances and finish requirements.
  • Utilize scales, micrometers, and indicators for setups, adjustments, and quality checks.
  • Work from part drawings, specifications, and grinding instructions.
  • Employ magnetic tables and chucks or clamps to position and secure workpieces, ensuring proper support to prevent distortion.
  • Select appropriate statistical tools to maintain process control and quality assurance.
  • Inspect and maintain the cleanliness of the work area and machine fluid levels on a daily basis.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience with rotary Blanchard grinding is essential.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Experience operating forklifts is required.
  • Capability to operate a straightening press.
  • Proficiency in using tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and use of provided safety equipment.
  • Familiarity with machine tools and equipment.
  • Proficient in common machine shop measuring tools.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED; equivalent work experience may substitute for formal education.
  • 3-6 months of experience in rotary Blanchard grinding.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This position operates within a manufacturing environment, with consistent exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials typical of such settings. The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs and endure prolonged periods of standing.
