Qualifications

The Medical Coder is responsible for providing coding and auditing services directly to healthcare providers. This role involves the meticulous analysis and conversion of medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, or illnesses into designated numerical codes. This is a full-time remote position that offers a flexible work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and code assigned medical charts
  • Electronically review medical charts using a computer
  • Abstract and accurately code diagnosis and documentation information
  • Research and resolve coding projects as assigned
  • Document necessary information from the medical record
  • Assess valid encounters, ensuring legibility and signature requirements are met
  • Identify valid face-to-face encounters
  • Conduct ongoing analysis of medical record charts to ensure coding compliance
  • Meet daily production and quality goals, maintaining an average accuracy rate of 95%
  • Participate in conference calls as needed to provide information and feedback

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Successful completion of at least one AHIMA or AAPC certified program, achieving the corresponding professional credential (RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, etc.); must be active and in good standing. A CPC credential is required, and the CRC certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • High School diploma is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of coding experience (recent hands-on production) is required. At least one year of specialized experience in Medicare Risk Adjustment disciplines, such as HCC, CCC, or HEDIS, is essential.
  • Auditing experience is a plus. ICD-10 experience or education is also advantageous.
