Position Overview

Title: Youth Support Coordinator

Reporting To: Director of Social Services

Role Summary:

The Youth Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in connecting community resources and providing essential referrals for young individuals, especially those who are not currently engaged with services in the local homeless crisis response framework. This role acts as a primary liaison to assist individuals under 24 years old in navigating various systems, including education, workforce development, healthcare, financial assistance, law enforcement, and homelessness services.

The focus is on at-risk youth and those facing homelessness, aiming to foster relationships and enhance collaborative efforts with community stakeholders.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time, salaried position requiring flexibility in hours. The role primarily involves afternoon and evening shifts, with occasional weekend and holiday work to ensure effective program delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with youth in their environments, guiding them through the intricate systems of care they need to access, while addressing their housing concerns. This includes assessing service requirements and managing cases.
  • Promote and advertise services to youth within the community through various channels, including social media, informational flyers, and educational workshops, while building relationships with service providers who assist youth and young adults at risk of homelessness.
  • Lead training sessions and discussions with stakeholders and community partners regarding the specific needs and challenges faced by youth in the area.
  • Maintain regular communication with coalitions and staff to address barriers and challenges youth encounter in accessing resources.
  • Advocate for systemic changes driven by youth with lived experiences.
  • Support the local Youth Action Board (YAB) by organizing meetings, reviewing and approving reimbursements, recruiting youth participants, identifying leadership opportunities, and serving as the main contact for the YAB with state and county coalitions.
  • Ensure that all services are delivered through a positive youth development, trauma-informed, harm reduction, and housing-first approach.
  • Participate in Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) System Navigator meetings.
  • Document necessary data in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Collaborate with local coalitions to ensure that authentic youth perspectives are integrated into all local decision-making processes.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed.
  • Continuously assess outcomes and engage in improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend program adjustments based on client and community feedback.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • A degree and/or relevant experience in social work, psychology, human services, youth development, or a related field is required.
  • Preference for candidates aged 18-24 with lived experiences.
  • Strong networking abilities and an outgoing personality.
  • Capacity to work independently and effectively.
  • Comfort in making phone calls and meeting with organizations for collaborative purposes.
  • Proven success in building relationships and establishing trust.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Excel and Google Docs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and coordination abilities.
  • Willingness to travel within the state as required.
  • A valid driver's license, adequate vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation are necessary.
  • Knowledge of local housing programs and low-income community resources is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations is essential.
  • Must be organized and capable of thriving in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required.
