Job Overview

Position Title: Information Technology Technician


Role Summary: Under the guidance of the IT Department, the IT Technician plays a crucial role in managing the internal computer systems, local area networks, wide area networks, and computer-based security systems for South Shore Line.


Key Responsibilities: The IT Technician will be tasked with the following:

  • Engage in Change Management processes for updates, modifications, and new system installations.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of computer systems, peripherals, networking devices, and security apparatus.
  • Support the repair and service of workstations, including software installation and removal as necessary.
  • Manage the installation and administration of local and wide area networks.
  • Address user inquiries regarding network access and software operations, including common applications.
  • Stay informed about updates in user and system software and hardware requirements.
  • Update network and client operating systems as needed.
  • Facilitate the installation and updates of software applications for security and compliance.
  • Ensure proper software licensing for all company software.
  • Oversee the management of system backups, user files, data security, and network permissions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer.

Qualifications: The following skills will be evaluated for candidate selection:

Technical Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software.
  • Proficiency in various operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).
  • Understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, routers, switches).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with standard software applications.
  • Awareness of IT security best practices.

Soft Skills:
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Customer service-focused mindset.
  • Capability to convey technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Attention to detail and organizational proficiency.

Education and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant IT certifications may be beneficial.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Willingness to work in various conditions and on varied schedules.
  • Excellent attendance and work history.


Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this role include frequent sitting, typing, and occasional handling of computer hardware. The employee may need to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, walking, or climbing.


Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this position is competitive and will be determined based on experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is available, details of which will be discussed during the interview process.
