POSITION OVERVIEW:


This role plays a vital part in advancing the mission of Rappahannock Area YMCA Inc, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing community well-being through youth development, health initiatives, and social responsibility.

The individual will guide children in educational settings and execute program curricula effectively.

Delivers a rewarding experience for both children and their families, emphasizing the importance of achievement, belonging, and fostering relationships among youth and within their families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivers curriculum in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Encourages children through intentional programming aimed at fostering achievement and a sense of belonging among youth and their families.
  • Oversees the children, classroom environment, and all activities, including necessary accommodations. Adheres to all procedures and standards.
  • Builds positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  • Ensures the program site and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Keeps accurate program records.
  • Participates in family events, program activities, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Meets educational and experience criteria set by state regulations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, required training, and Child Abuse prevention training must be completed within 30 days of hire.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental environment is preferred.
  • Ability to foster positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capability to implement age-appropriate and developmentally suitable program activities.
  • Experience with diverse populations is preferred.
  • Completion of Praesidium training within 7 days of hire.
  • Awareness that the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for extended periods.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be capable of lifting and/or assisting children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain alertness while standing or sitting for several hours.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Visual and auditory capabilities to respond to critical situations and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergencies.
  • Ability to engage in data entry for extended periods.
